PDP RALLY, WE ONLY ACTED ON COURT ORDER - CP Rivers State

The Police in Rivers State has debunked claims that it acted a script of the Presidency by blocking off the venue of the Repeat National Convention of the People's Democratic Party (PDP)  this was contained in a statement issued by the the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mr Francis Odesanya on Wednesday,  he denied reports that his men sealed off the venue of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, National Convention in the state.

The party’s National Convention billed for today at the Sharks Staduim in Port Harcourt, the state capital, was reportedly sealed-off by a team of police officers, men of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC and plain cloth security personnel.

Reports ealier had it that the venue was sealed due to the conflicting court rulings and leadership controversies currently rocking the party.

The Force Spokesman, Donald Awunah, while speaking with Channels Television had said, the primary responsibility of the police was to protect life and prevent crisis.

Awunah added that due to the tension surrounding the convention and the conflicting court rulings on the national convention, the police thought it best to seal off the venue.

But speaking with newsmen, Odesanya said he only complied with a court order to provide security around the venue, stressing that his men did not seal off the place.

Our jobs are law enforcement agencies is to secure lives and properties, but can be assigned duties by the court,  in this case a judge asked us to perform additional duties,  and that we did.  We never blocked of the place,  we only did performed duty.

Repeat National Convention: Face off with Police We are on top of the matter - PDP

In light of the situation playing out at the National stadium,  Port-Harcourt, Rivers State due to the scheduled Repeat National Convention,  the leadership of the People's Democratic Party (PDP)  have issued a statement via its Facebook page asking that it's members should hold on as they are trying to resolve the matter with the Police. Heavily armed security officers have sealed the venue of the party’s convention, thus, preventing people from entering the premises. Boko Haram Ambush Military Escort

Today afternoon, suspected elements  of the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists who were foraging for food, ambushed troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE escorting commercial vehicles from Damboa to Maiduguri, at Sanda general area, Borno State. Unfortunately, 5 civilians lost their lives at the incident and another died on the way to the hospital. Three soldiers also sustained injuries. The wounded have been evacuated to Maiduguri. Consequently, another robust patrol team has been despatched to reinforce the troops, clear the general area and pursue the terrorists. This unfortunate incident has brought to the fore the need for more vigilance and cooperation amongst all.
