Buhari Administration - Manufactured Date: March 28, 2015, Expiration Date: May 29, 2017 By Bayo Oluwasanmi

From our recent political history, few events have created more media buzz than when the 73-year old retired Army General, Muhammadu Buhari was sworn in as President  of Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country. As we gasp in shock and as the Buhari administration gasps for breath, Nigerians wonder what happened to the Chief-Agent-for-Change who toppled the Otuoke Corruption Czar, former President Goodluck Jonathan, 15 months ago in a rare democratic defeat of a ruling party that held power for 16 years. To see clearly is prophecy. More so, trying to revive a failed state like Nigeria is like hiking in the wilderness. You need to see far into the future. You need survival skills before you start the journey. So far, it is evident that Mr. Buhari was never prepared for the journey. Didn't see where he was headed. Many writers and critics offered free help to Mr. Buhari to enable him realize and appreciate that leadership position is not a spectator position. Volumes have been writt

Another Fire Engulfs Lagos International Airport

Image
Barely four days after a fire ravaged the D-wing of Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, another fire at the same airport broke out on Sunday evening. The fire outbreak, which affected the Skye Bank office at the airport, also affected some other tenants at the terminal. It took the quick intervention of the firefighting agents of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to put the raging fire under control. A source close to the engineering department of the FAAN told our correspondent that some of the recently fitted cables might have been responsible for the fire outbreak. At the time of publication, the entire arrival hall of the terminal was in total darkness while flight operations were temporarily halted. Our correspondent who was at the terminal observed that all the staff of the offices located in the arrival hall scampered for safety and moved outside their offices while some were seen outside the terminal immediately after noticing a spark fro

The head office of the beleaguered airline, Aero Contractors, was, at the weekend, besieged by passengers who had bought flight tickets in the hope of traveling at a later date. They were at the office to demand the refund of the sums paid for tickets. The passengers also stormed the office of the airline at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos. They, however, met the office locked, as it has been since the airline announced a suspension of its flight operations last week. When Reporters visited the airline's terminal on Saturday, it observed that some passengers had booked flights to Accra, Ghana, later this month. Such passengers were shocked to learn that the airline had suspended flight operations to the West African country. The airline suspended flight operations to Accra in June without informing passengers, who had booked ahead. A few, however, got to know and succeeded in getting their fares refunded. But since last week when the airline an

Meet Ogudu, A Spiritual Diety of Abia State

Image
Popular stories of one sort or the another have existed in every place and age. Some of these stories, over time, have become part of the people and invariably their culture. Ogudu, having been in existence for over 300 years in the community of Agbiyi Umuede–Amaegbuato, Nkpa, in Bende Local Government of Abia State, has become a cultural phenomenon used for celebration every leap year of the community. Ogudu is not a human being, an animal or artifact preserved for ages, which has become an object of worship, but an old male Ngwu trunk that looks rickety having survived vagaries of weather  over  several decades; it  has remained a mysterious object of celebration till the current dispensation. Ngwu is not just any tree in the forest. Those who are competent to decipher mysteries like personalities endowed with uncommon mystical prowess like juju priests and native doctors are better informed to talk about Ngwu and its species: Male and female. Mere mortals  cannot   identify Ngwu tre
