Nigeria to get National Guard

The Federal Government is considering the establishment of a National Guard to address emerging security threats and emergencies in the country. The Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, disclosed this on Thursday in Abuja‎ when the Adjutant General of the California National Guard, U.S, paid him a courtesy visit. ‎ The minister however stressed that a lot of consultations would be done before any decision is taken in that regard. He recalled that several years ago‎, the government had planned the establishment of a National Guard, but the idea did not come to fruition due to a number of challenges. Mr. Dambazau explained that the National Guard would help to fill the gap between the operations of the Military and the Nigerian Police in tackling security challenges and emergencies. ‎ He said the military was becoming increasingly involved in dealing with some security threats in the country which is outside their constitutional mandate while the police might be overstretch

Nigerian Soldiers Repel Boko Haram In Abadam, Borno State

In a statement released by the Nigerian Army spokesman, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, disclosed that the troops dealt a decisive blow to Boko Haram fighters who attempted to attack a military location. Colonel Usman said the members of the terrorist group had launched their attack around 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 22, 2016, adding that the battle with the insurgents lasted for about two hours.  Nigerian soldiers involved in Operation LAFIYA DOLE, a multinational Joint Task Force, today, routed Islamist insurgents belonging to Boko Haram in Abadam, Borno State.  “During the fierce battle, the troops killed 15 of the insurgents, with many escaping with gunshot wounds,” said the military spokesman. Boko Haram Ambush Military Escort

Today afternoon, suspected elements  of the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists who were foraging for food, ambushed troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE escorting commercial vehicles from Damboa to Maiduguri, at Sanda general area, Borno State. Unfortunately, 5 civilians lost their lives at the incident and another died on the way to the hospital. Three soldiers also sustained injuries. The wounded have been evacuated to Maiduguri. Consequently, another robust patrol team has been despatched to reinforce the troops, clear the general area and pursue the terrorists. This unfortunate incident has brought to the fore the need for more vigilance and cooperation amongst all. Troops Clear Boko Haram Terrorists Hideouts

Following reported observed  activities of remnants of Boko Haram terrorists around Jororo and Tombaeji villages in Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State, troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE carried out a clearance operation within the area  in the early hours of Wednesday 14th September 2016.  The fighting patrol team sent came into contact with Boko Haram terrorists elements around Gajire village during which there was a firefight that lasted for about 15 minutes.  The gallant troops overpowered the terrorists and killed 4 of them and captured 1 alive. The victorious troops also recovered 2 General Purpose Machine Guns (GMPG), 2 AK-47 Rifles and 144 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition from the terrorists. In addition, they also recovered 2 KASEA branded motorcycles.  The troops have continued to patrol the general area in search of possible remnants of the Boko Haram terrorists that might be hibernating in the area. Associated Press, yesterday released a statement credited to Boko Haram alleging that dozens of the 219 Abducted Chibok Girls have been killed in the ongoing coordinated air strikes against its members,  this was contained in series of tweets sent out by Ahmad Salkida.  Recall that Ahmad Salkida was just recently declared wanted by the Nigerian Army for withholding statements concerning the whereabouts of the abducted school girls. Ahmad Salkida, a journalist with links to Boko Haram, in a series of tweets yesterday on his Tweeter Handle @ContactSalkida, confirmed watching “horrifying” images of some of the Chibok girls allegedly killed by the Nigerian military airstrikes. The only female declared wanted by the Nigerian Army on Monday 15th August 2016 in connection with the abducted 276 Chibok School girls Aisha Alkali Wakil, has debunked the reported report and has reported that she has nothing to hide and the Nigeria Army has the location of her residence.
