Rotimi Akeredolu has emerged the governorship candidate of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State following today’s primary election held amidst tight security in the capital of Akure. Governor Mohammed Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa State, who is also the chairman primary election committee of the party that monitored the exercise, announced Mr. Akeredolu as the winner of the poll at the international event center moments ago. Our correspondent found that other members of the APC Primary Election Committee include: Dr. Bruce Ugbide, Rep. Hamma Ali, Prince M. Martin, and Mr Mohammed Lawal. He described the conduct of the APC primary election producing a candidate for the opposition party in the state as transparent and credible. Unknown gunmen earlier today assassinated a former local government caretaker committee chairman of the  Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, Niyi Pirisola. A source who spoke to Reporters correspondent in a phone said Mr. Pirisola was "gunned down" in the early hours of Friday. "He was killed in the early hours of today (Friday) at about 3:00 am while returning from a branch of Celestial Church Of Christ at Ilutuntun in his hometown," the source said. Chairman of APC in Ondo State, Chief Isaac Kekemeke, has issued a statement saying that the party will not manipulate the process of the August 27 governorship primary in the state. He however said that he believes that election will be free and fair. It is believed that 23 governorship aspirants will participate in the primary with over 3000 delegates. He said, “As far as the forthcoming governorship primary in Ondo State is concerned, there is no basis for manipulation and there will be no imposition of candidate. It is the delegates (voters) that will speak and whoever the delegates pick becomes the candidate of the party.
