BREAKING: Buhari Returns Today - Presidency

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari is returning to the country today, after receiving medical attention in London. The President had left the country on May 7, this year, after handing over power to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who has functioned as Acting President since then. President Buhari is expected to speak to Nigerians in a broadcast by 7 a.m on Monday, August 21, 2017, according to Femi Adesina, the President’s media adviser. Adesina said Buhari thanked all Nigerians who have prayed ceaselessly for his recovery and well-being since the beginning of the health challenge in January this year.

Naira Appreciates To N498/$ As Reserves Hit $28.3bn

Having depreciated in value to N500 to the dollar at the parallel market, the value of the naira appreciated to N498 to the dollar, the value it had been trading for weeks or weeks, even as external reserves rose to $28.28 billion the highest in the year highest in a year. The naira however remained stable at N305.25 to the dollar at the interbank market, on the website of the Association of Bureau de Change Operators; the naira was quoted at N315.38 to the dollar. Demand for the greenback grew and the Central Bank of Nigeria rationed dollar supply, having sold $660 million in 3- and 5- month currency forwards at an auction aimed at clearing a backlog of dollar demand. Traders however said the dollar sale was not enough to satisfy the market. Data on the website of the apex bank showed that the nation’s external reserves has risen by 7.89 per cent since the beginning of the year. Michael Ibru Is Dead

Family of Michael Ibru (who had been battling with serious health ailment for over eight years in Florida, United States of America) this evening just announced the untimely death of their illustrious son who died in the early hours of Tuesday Until his death,  Olorogun Michael Ibru was the chairman of the Ibru Organization, he died at the age of 86 on Tuesday morning. His death coming just  over one month after the burial of his younger brother, Olorogun Felix Ibru, the first civilian governor of Delta State. Michael was a established entrepreneur who was a giant figure in many industries. He was the first son The Chief Epete Ibru of Agbarha-Otor in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State. He had only one wife,  Cecilia Ibru, the former CEO of the defunct Oceanic Bank, recently jailed by EFCC for embezzlement of funds trusted in her care.

Nasarawa State Government denies Slashing Workers Salaries by 50%

This is according to the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Nasarawa State, Yusuf Usman during an interview on Sunrise Daily. “The strike was as a result of labour’s inability to comprehend the situation on ground, they had no reason to go on strike without actually taking into account the real situations on ground, Mr Usman told Channels television. “Here is a state that for five years consecutively has been paying without failing and without any default. “I emphasised this point because as we are talking with you there are so many states that are far behind in the payment of salaries, owing arrears of five, six, seven months. “So if Nasarawa State would, despite all the hardship in the country, keep fit with the payment of salaries for 5 years without arrears I think there is no reason. Mr Usman also debunked the allegations that the state government slashed the workers’ salaries by 50 per cent saying it was a reduction of the bonuses the government gave the worker

No Salary: NLC Plans Strike for August 23rd.

Nigerian Labour Congress the umbrella body of all Labour Unions of workers in Nigeria has issued a statement directing all state leaders to converge for a National Industrial Action (Strike) The NLC President Ayuba Wabba who issued the statement and convened the protest also said it is to protest a killing of their members in Nasarawa State. The stage is already set for the protest in Kaduna, Kwara, Nasarawa and Lagos States among others. More than 20 states have been unable to pay monthly salaries for workers and others such as Bayelsa has resulted to paying half salaries. However, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a statement   requesting the NLC to stop the strike on the grounds that it will interfere into the ongoing investigations of workers killed in the state.
