EDO STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY SPEAKER IMPEACHED

The Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Honourable Justin Okonoboh, has been impeached. Honourable Okonoboh was impeached by lawmakers at the Assembly on Monday in Benin City, the Edo State capital. YOu will recall that Justin took over from Advie who stepped down about 1 year ago on July 25 2016. It is however not clear why the house suddenly turned on him today. Hounourable Kabiru Ajoto has been elected as the new Speaker. More Details coming soon

Rotimi Akeredolu has emerged the governorship candidate of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State following today’s primary election held amidst tight security in the capital of Akure. Governor Mohammed Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa State, who is also the chairman primary election committee of the party that monitored the exercise, announced Mr. Akeredolu as the winner of the poll at the international event center moments ago. Boko Haram Ambush Military Escort

Today afternoon, suspected elements  of the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists who were foraging for food, ambushed troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE escorting commercial vehicles from Damboa to Maiduguri, at Sanda general area, Borno State. Unfortunately, 5 civilians lost their lives at the incident and another died on the way to the hospital. Three soldiers also sustained injuries. The wounded have been evacuated to Maiduguri. Consequently, another robust patrol team has been despatched to reinforce the troops, clear the general area and pursue the terrorists. This unfortunate incident has brought to the fore the need for more vigilance and cooperation amongst all. We would like to assure the public that we would not allow this isolated incident to thwart the peace and security commuters enjoy along the route and all other opened routes in the North East. Halliburton Scandal: EFCC Traces N13.5b To Private Account

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has uncovered how $32.5 million of about $200 million fines from Halliburton Energy Services was allegedly paid into a private account. Th e cash was said to be missing because the anti-graft agency could not ascertain whether or not it was remitted into the Federal Government’s account. A top shot with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation(NNPC), Mr. Roland Ewubare, who was one of the lawyers involved in the Settlement Agreement with Halliburton, has been given up to September 15 to submit a letter authorising him by the Federal Government  to open the private escrow account. Ewubare told the EFCC that, as the then Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), he acted in national interest in opening the escrow account.
